When you think of lions in the Masai Mara, one should come to mind, and his name is Scarface.
He gets his name from the obvious scar above his eye, Scarface is apparently 10 years old, according The Marsh Pride of Lions on Facebook, he was born in 2008.
It is speculated that he was fathered by the Notch male lions, he forms part of the Musketeers coalition with his 3 brother, Morani, Sikio and Hunter.
In 2012, when they were only four years old, Scarface and his brother took over the Marsh pride. You might have heard of the Marsh pride as they were featured on the Big Cats Diary documentary on BBC.
The Marsh pride also made headlines in 2015 when lions died after being poisoned, the farmers were upset with the lions for killing their cattle so they poisoned the carcass with pesticide, knowing the lions would return to feed on the rest of the carcass, it was not clear how many lions died from this.
There is many speculations of how Scarface got his famous scar, we definitely know he got the scar in 2011, here is a photo of it. Many say he got it while fighting and other say it was from a spear.
The scar reopens from time to time from Scarface scratching it, and the vets do intervene and stitch it back up.
In 2016 the 4 musketeers took over the Paradise pride. The pride consists of 9 females with cubs and a few sub adult males. This is his son Tatu.
Since 2016 Scarface has been seen limping, there is no visible scars or injuries, we are sure his just getting old and his old injuries are catching up with him.
Nonetheless he is magnificent male lion that looks amazing for his age.
Hopefully he can survive a few more years in a territory filled with young and strong lions.
Seems like a very brave lion
