Hides are the most peaceful spots found in the Kruger, they are made up of wooden structures with a low roof and flat benches overlooking the water. Here are the 5 best hides in the Kruger National Park.
Hides are mostly frequented by photographers interested in birding, and hides are the best places to get photos of different birds.
The best time to go to a hide is after a early morning game drive, remember to take your cameras and binoculars to witness the beautiful birds of Kruger.
You might be lucky and see other animals coming to the water for a drink, the waters are also favorited by hippos and crocodiles.
Lake Panic Hide
This particular hide is found near Skukuza on the S42 road which is close to the a Skukuza nursery, it overlooks a medium sized dam, with reed beds in mixed woodland. Despite being situated in a crowded area of the park, it is still a relaxing spot because only eight cars are allowed at a time. The Hide is L-shaped allowing views in two directions.

Ntandanyathi Hide
Ntandanyathi is close to Lower Sabie, you will find it on the S28 gravel road. The hide overlooks Nhlowa river. It is a very quiet viewing point and it can produce amazing sightings. The hide sits high and its surrounded by thick eastern grasslands.

Sable Dam Hide
Is situated 10km from Phalaborwa Gate and it overlooks the Sable Dam, this one is different to the hides mentioned above because it’s a bird hide by day but can be used as a overnight accomodation at night. Sable Dam Hide sleeps a maximum of 9 people and bookings are essential for a stay at Sable Hide, conditions are rustic and you have to provide your own firewood and water.

Sweni Bird Hide
Its located in the central part of the park close to the Satara-N’wanetsi Road. The hide is built in in a L-shape overlooking the Sweni River, every time we have visited this hide we have been the only two in the hide so it is very quiet.

Shipandani Overnight Hide
Similar to Sable hide this hide provides the option of sleeping at the hide after the gates closing times. It is located in the northern part of the park close to Mopani rest camp, it overlooks the Tsendze River, the hide sleeps 2 to 6 people. When you book an overnight hide you have to book out the whole thing, you check in to the hide 30 minutes before camp gates close and you have to check out when Camp gates open because the hide is open again yo the general tourists.
