Today’s post is dedicated to readers that wonder what a day consists of when you go on Safari, remember that national parks all vary, private game reserves are different to national park. We are focusing on what a day at the Kruger consists of, this post is perfect for you as we describe in detail what a day in the life on safari is like.
Your day starts bright and early

You might want to turn off your alarm and get back into bed, but your chances for seeing the most animals is early morning, nocturnal animals such as lions are on their way back to their territory, and leopards might be trying to find a tree to sleep in for the rest of the day.
If you are self-driving remember to pack breakfast snacks and fill up your thermal mugs with coffee. Later in the morning you can stop for breakfast at a restaurant or make your own breakfast back at camp or hire a skottel to fry up eggs and bacon.
Having a break for Lunch
Your morning drive usually last till 11 o’clock because from 11AM to around 3PM it too hot and many animals will be laying low under some bushes, sometimes this isn’t the case because you might still get lucky and spot something, but the days which you don’t, enjoy lunch at one of the restaurant or make a light lunch for yourself. After lunch enjoy some R&R by reading a book or joining the animals for an afternoon snooze.
Afternoon Drive
After waking up refreshed from your nap you should set out to go for an afternoon drive, animals are active in the afternoon, lions are hunting their supper, it can always be action packed always keep in mind what time you need to get back to camp because the gates close at a certain time.
Dinner Time
Getting back to camp and starting a Braai (Barbeque) is very popular, and it allows you to speak about the highlights of the day and plan which route to do the next day, after enjoying a great meal and some drinks.

You may also book a night drive which is a guided drive on a safari vehicle with a guide, and the goal is to spot nocturnal animals which you don’t see during the day with spotlights, these animals include bush babies, African genets and obviously bigger predators as well, leopards are very active at night.
After the night drive or dinner nothing is better than getting into bed, surrounded by noises of nature, such as hearing lions roaring in the distance.
