We decided to add a weekly post for the best routes for game viewing to our blog, so every week we will be discussing different routes in the Kruger Park. Today we going to start by talking about the route from Malelane Gate to Skukuza.
Malelane is one of the most convenient gates to access from Johannesburg with an approximate 4 hour travel time and 400km in distance.
Our best route if entering at Malelane gate would be turning on to the S114 about 5km from the gate.
The beginning of the S114 is a sand road that travels along the Crocodile River, we have had exciting early morning sightings on this road of leopard and wild dog.
After traveling 8km on the S114 continue onto the s25 then turning left onto the S119 where u can stop at Gardenia Hide, Gardenia hide offers a great opportunity for bird viewing, the S119 travels along the Mlambane river, we have often seen lions in the river bed as well as seeing large herds of buffalo and elephants.
Once you come to the end of the S119 turn right onto the S114 and make your way up-to Renosterkoppies waterhole. The Renosterkoppies waterhole is a prime area for viewing the Big 5. We have had many sightings of lions around the waterhole as well as the rest of the Big 5. After the waterhole continue on the S114 and then turn right onto the H1-1 making your way up to Skukuza for a break.
This route is approximately 70 km and it will take you 3 hours to complete.
